American Horodoker Dr. Norman Helman translated the entire Yiddish section of the Yizkor book, some of which were repeated in the Hebrew section of the book. Born in Detroit on July 27, 1934, he was the son of Horodokers Leo (Chaim Leib) and Anna (Hashke Glassman) Helman. David Horodoker Memorial Book was published by the David-Horodoker Women’s Organization in 1981. In his translator’s note, Dr. Helman wrote, “This translation has a double purpose: to teach the English-speaking descendants of the David-Horodokers about their roots and to revive the memory of the tragic martyrdom of our relatives and friends.” According to Dr. Helman’s obituary in the February 6, 2014 issue of The Detroit Jewish News, “He was a man who was devoted to his family, God and his healing profession.” His obituary also mentions that one of his many accomplishments was the translation of the Yiddish portion of the Yizkor book of David-Horodok.
