The David-Horodoker Organization’s 88th Annual Gathering was held on Sunday, December 14, 2025. The following recap was written by Neil Gorosh. The photos are from gatherings in Detroit, New York City, and Washington D.C.
Well, Horodokers, you’ve done it again. You’ve done yourself proud. Defying all the odds, our Landsmanshaftn once more overcame geography and generational differences to come together and celebrate the arrival of Chanukah.
Over one hundred David-Horodokers attended our get together at Temple Israel in Michigan. While parents and grandparents ate latkes and Sunday brunch food, our Horo-ducklings were treated to a Magical Science show. And while many of the adults were busy trying to remember when jelly donuts became a Chanukah ‘thing’, the kids all seemed to be having a great time, and, of course, were perfectly well behaved.
Later, Rabbi Jennifer Kazluny emceed a nearly flawless ZOOM candle-lighting ceremony that brought together satellite in-person gatherings of dozens of Horodokers in New York, Seattle, Los Angeles, Herzliya, Israel and Washington, DC, including cousins from the Katz, Schechter, Aboulafia, Davidson, Zemmol families, among many others. ZOOM attendees from around the globe also joined in, including landsmen from Buenos Aires. The candle-lighting ceremony spanned multiple generations, from the Greatest Generation (born 1913–1928) and the Silent Generation (1929–1945) to Baby Boomers (1946–1964), Generation X (1965–1980), Millennials (1981–1996), Generation Z (1997–2012), and even Generation Alpha (2013–present).
In total, nearly 200 David-Horodokers took part in the festivities. We came together. We celebrated our heritage, together. It was the perfect answer to the perilous times we are all living through. We made the effort. That’s what we do. It’s why we have survived as an organization for over 100 years. Now that’s something to be proud of!
The annual David-Horodoker Organization’s Memorial (Yizkor) Service took place on September 21, 2025. We honored the memory of those from David-Horodok and neighboring towns who perished in the Holocaust as well as the memory of our members who recently passed away. This year, we also commemorated Chaya Ginzburg Liberman z”l and her brave and remarkable story. Chaya was the lone survivor of the horror which occurred on the eve of Rosh Hashanah 1942 in the Stasino forest outside of the town of Stolin, Belarus, about 20 miles from David-Horodok.
